Features:
Extreme ONE OS — Cloud-Native Operating System
The 8730 runs Extreme ONE OS, an advanced platform powered by a microservices-based architecture where each service operates independently, enabling rapid updates and zero-impact deployments. With an API-first framework and support for OpenConfig, REST APIs, Python, and NETCONF/RESTCONF, integration and automation are simple. ONE OS supports full in-service maintainability and is entirely API-driven for both management and programmability.
Trusted Delivery
As part of Extreme's Trusted Delivery initiative, the 8730 combines Secure Boot technology with an industry-first Measured Boot implementation. Measured Boot extends the security posture into the execution of the operating system itself, verifying hardware components, boot process, and OS from factory to installation. Combined with remote attestation, it provides ongoing binary-level validation during operation — critical for unattended remote sites, colocation, and shared data center environments.
High Availability and Reliability
The 8730 delivers high availability through clear separation of the control plane and data plane, redundant hot-swappable power supplies (N+1), and N+1 redundant fan modules. The advanced CPU complex with 24 cores, 32 GB ECC DDR4, and dual redundant 2x10G SFP+ management ports ensures robust platform operation.
Integrated Application Hosting
The 8730 accelerates next-gen network operations with a high-performance CPU complex capable of running VM-based apps alongside the switch OS without affecting throughput or latency. Its open design supports Extreme-native or third-party tools directly on the switch for built-in security, monitoring, diagnostics, and control. Dedicated compute, memory, and SSD storage enable precise packet capture and offline processing.
ExtremeCloud Orchestrator
Extreme Cloud Orchestrator simplifies and accelerates data center fabric deployment. Running as a service on the Integrated Application Hosting environment within the 8730, it uses industry-standard open API-based programmable interfaces to deploy, provision, and automate single or multiple data center IP Fabric networks. It also integrates with VMware vCenter, Microsoft Hyper-V, and OpenStack.
Precise Timing
The 8730 supports Precision Time Protocol (PTP v2 / IEEE 1588) with an integrated GNSS receiver, telecom profiles G.8265.1, G.8275.1, and G.8275.2, SMPTE/AES67 for professional broadcast, and SyncE on all interfaces — enabling sub-microsecond accuracy for data centers, mobile networks, and industrial automation.
