Extreme Networks

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and HANOVER, Germany, March 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXTR) today introduced its Intelligent Mobile Edge solution, which includes a new line of advanced Ethernet switches, longer range 802.11n access points and smart identity management across wired and wireless networks. The new solution advances the Company's strategy to mobilize businesses with new hardware and software that makes it easier to manage the "Bring-Your-Own-Device" (BYOD) movement within corporate IT environments.

The Intelligent Mobile Edge solution addresses enterprise, education, and physical security needs of BYOD.

The Intelligent Mobile Edge portfolio includes:

  • New line of Summit® X440 Gigabit fixed switches powered by ExtremeXOS®.  The intelligent switches support PoE+, SummitStack™stacking, and IPv6.  They also offer higher scalability and breakthrough total cost of ownership (TCO).
  • 802.11n WLAN portfolio that includes the longer range Altitude™ 4511 Access Points with SMART RF controllers.
  • Smart identity management that works across LAN, WLAN and 3G/4G environments.   The software allows businesses to dynamically manage users and their BYOD devices.   Network access is based on Active Directory, RADIUS, and standard LDAP protocols.

The Intelligent Mobile Edge solution will be showcased at CeBIT, Hall 13, booth D25.  The solution mobilizes business networks with a single converged data plane for wired and wireless networks.  The solution includes finer grain access controls, improved security and easier device management expected by today's mobile users.

Customer Support

"Extreme Networks Intelligent Mobile Edge solution with best-of-breed switching helps us to meet our goals due to the simplicity and consistency of ExtremeXOS, great performance and security," said Dwight Morr, Director of IT for The Limited.  "Over the last two years, we have achieved measurable TCO reductions with the use of wireless mobility to support vital transactions, the use of versatile stacking management to reduce the time required by our staff for daily maintenance in our LAN and data centers, and having the powerful potential of Identity Manager at hand to meet our internal policy and retail compliance requirements."

"We aim to inspire wonder in our visitors. In this digital age, it is absolutely necessary to provide ready access to content about our exhibits and collections from any connected device, anywhere, anytime," said Douglas Hegley, Director of Technology for the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. "Extreme Networks intelligent mobile edge solution is not only a great value, but offers the versatility to integrate both wired and wireless connectivity, enabling us to deliver on-demand multimedia to thousands of visitors, connecting them to the information and understanding that they seek from a world-class art museum."

Summit X440 Series Switches

Extreme Networks family of Summit X440 switches, with 10 new models, features leading price/performance and port density (offering 8, 12, 24 and 48 ports in 1RU) and extends the intelligence and resiliency of the ExtremeXOS network operating system to the converged edge, enabling finer grain Quality of Service (QoS) management, 'mix and match' stacking for streamlined switch management, and identity awareness.

The Summit X440 supports today's 802.11n deployments, and sets the stage for future migration to 802.11ac. The switches complementExtreme Networks Summit

WM3000 series WLAN controllers, based on Motorola's leading WiNG 5architecture. This offers a converged data plane to remove bandwidth bottlenecks and make mobility seamless.

"Organizations are allowing their employees to access the enterprise via personal devices at a rapidly increasing rate," said David Ginsburg, CMO for Extreme Networks.  "This trend has put enterprise mobility on the fast track, yet IT departments are still grappling with how to cope. With Extreme Networks Intelligent Mobile Edge Solution, we offer the leading breadth of features, critical wireless integration and uncompromised performance, enabling campuses to drive cost savings."

Extreme Networks Ridgeline(TM) management platform enables identity-aware access control and policy enforcement in addition to capabilities that identify devices connected to the network and apply security and adapt resources accordingly.
