Next Generation Wireless and Exciting New Features for Students, Faculty, and Athletes

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Extreme Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXTR) today announced that Eufaula City Schools, in Eufaula, Alabama, selected Extreme's software-driven wireless networking solutions to support BYOD initiatives and cutting-edge sports technology within its state-of-the-art athletic facility. Extreme's technology will allow Eufaula to extend networking connectivity across its high school campus to deliver reliable, high-density Wi-Fi within the classroom, and support Eufaula's academic, enrichment and athletic programs.

In 2016, the district funded a $3.2 million project to construct a new indoor athletic practice facility in support of Eufaula's athletic program. In order for this facility to serve as a technology hub, equipped with the latest fitness monitoring devices, Eufaula needed a robust wireless network that could easily manage high-volume network activity, at all times.

After working with Extreme's partner, Synergetics DCS, Inc., to deploy ExtremeWireless™ access points, ExtremeManagement™ and ExtremeAnalytics™ across campus, Eufaula's small IT staff can now manage the entire network and provide efficient, uninterrupted wireless connectivity to all users within the facility and throughout each high school classroom.

Key Facts

  • The athletic facility and high school classrooms have been transformed into a BYOD zone. Students that do not have Internet access at home are able to stream educational videos or download practice videos to their own devices or Eufaula-issued devices.
  • By using Extreme's NFL grade analytics offering, Eufaula is now able to track an athlete's progress by monitoring iPads hooked up to weights and gym equipment and water fountains that measure an athlete's fluid intake.
  • With ExtremeWireless deployed in four classrooms, teachers can easily prepare lesson plans, host online tutoring sessions and stream content, all without fear of a network crash in the middle of a lecture.
  • In the future, the district plans to deploy wireless infrastructure that supports more mobile applications and online learning environments across its other schools.

Executive Perspectives

Todd Watkins, Director of Technology and Innovation, Eufaula City Schools "With Extreme's solutions, we are discovering more ways to use technology than ever before. Extreme is quite literally the infrastructure behind the success of our athletic facility and reliable wireless connection in classrooms and we value our investment in their technology. We're looking forward to rolling out additional products across our district in the near future."

Kay Hall Nolan, Senior Sales Executive, Synergetics DCS, Inc. As an education leader in Alabama, we are proud of our work in deploying our wireless solutions that were scalable from the athletic facility to the classroom, offering the school more capabilities in providing an all-encompassing digital learning environment."
